The 10 Most Expensive Home Listings Ever in the U.S.
by www.SixWise.com

With talk of the U.S. housing slump hitting the headlines seemingly every day, the last thing you'd expect to hear about is a booming real estate sector where sellers can name their price -- and are actually turning away buyers.

Yet, when it comes to the top echelons of residential homes, those listing not for $1 million or even $10 million but $60 million and beyond, this is exactly the case.

Many of these homes are so exclusive that they're never publicly listed.

To date, the most expensive residential home ever sold in the United States (which happened earlier this year) cost $103 million. The home, a 40-acre estate in East Hampton, New York, was purchased by investor Ron Baron.

However, some of the homes listed below are poised to break this record. If you're at all interested in the homes of the rich and famous (or at least the rich), you will be blown away by the extravagance that follows.

1. The Beverley Hills Mansion Once Owned by William Randolph Hearst

List Price: $165 million
Location: Beverly Hills, California

Owned by financier Leonard Ross, this 72,000-square-foot Mediterranean-type home sits on a 6.25-acre compound. First built in 1927 (three additional houses have since been added), the house boasts an Art Deco-style disco, 22-foot ceilings in the living room, a two-story wood-paneled library and a series of ponds that cascade into a swimming pool.

2. Hala Ranch

List Price: $135 million
Location: Aspen, Colorado

This 56,000-square-foot home was built in 1991 for the family of Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the former ambassador to the United States from Saudi Arabia. It has 15 bedrooms, 16 bathrooms, and, if you like to entertain, enough room for a 450-person event. No need to go elsewhere for a haircut, there's also a private barbershop and beauty salon.

Other notable features include an indoor swimming pool and fountain, an on-site gas station and car wash, a stable, sculpture garden, cross-country skiing trails and even its own sewage treatment plant.

3. Maison de L'Amitie

List Price: $125 million
Location: Palm Beach, Florida

Donald Trump owns this 80,000-square-foot refurbished mansion, which he bought for $41.25 million at a bankruptcy auction. It has its own ballroom, conservatory, eight full bathrooms each in a different color of marble, and a 100-foot-long swimming pool, plus it has 475 feet of oceanfront property.

4. Fleur de Lys

List Price: $125 million
Location: Los Angeles, California

This 41,000-square-foot limestone mansion is modeled after Vaux le Vicomte, the 17th-century palace of Louis XIV's finance minister, Nicolas Fouquet. It features a 100-person ballroom, 22-karat gold-leaf moldings and extra protection in case of an earthquake -- the house is actually sitting on rollers for this very reason.

5. Lake Tahoe Abode

List Price: $100 million
Location: Zephyr Cove, Nevada, overlooking Lake Tahoe

This 38,000-square-foot home, owned by Joel Horowitz, former CEO of Tommy Hilfiger Corp., and his wife, Ann, sits on 210 acres, complete with a private lake. The dining room has 300-year-old French plank flooring, and the entryway has marble floors modeled after those in the New York Public Library. This house is being sold furnished.

6. Portabello Estate

List Price: $75 million
Location: Corona del Mar, California

This modern-designed 30,000-square-foot home sits on a triple oceanfront lot, overlooking the Pacific Ocean (with private beach access). The shape of the home resembles a nautilus shell, and it has eight bedrooms and 10 full baths.

7. Three Ponds

List Price: $75 million
Location: Bridgehampton, New York

The 60-acre farmland lot on which Three Ponds sits has 14 gardens, a guest house, a 75-foot-long swimming pool and a USGA-rated Rees Jones golf course. The house itself is covered in wood paneling and other luxurious finishes.

8. NYC Triplex

List Price: $70 million
Location: New York, New York

This triplex tops off one of New York's most elegant hotels, with striking views of the city. It has a paneled library, wine cellar, black marble staircase, marble bathrooms, and a grand salon that was once a ballroom.

9. California Palace of Vistas

List Price: $65 million
Location: Belvedere, California

This 10,000 square-foot-home has views of San Francisco, Angel Island, the Gold Gate Bridge and the Bay. Best of all, it has large windows and a wraparound veranda so you can take advantage of them.

10. Malibu Beach House

List Price: $65 million
Location: Malibu, California

This seven-bedroom estate has panoramic ocean views and seven acres of land, which includes a bluff, two riding stables, a riding ring, tennis court, swimming pool and private beach access.
