Eliminate the Cause, No Need for a Cure
and Why Your Birth-DNA is NOT Your Destiny… If You So Choose
by www.SixWise.com
On a day-by-day, and even hourly, basis, the choices you make are influencing your health. Whether you choose to …
- Eat a fresh, home-cooked meal vs. fast food
- Sleep a full night’s sleep vs. staying up too late
- Manage your stress vs. allowing stress to cause you anxiety
- Exercise vs. being sedentary
… and much more, actually influences your genetic expression.
Your actions, or lack of actions, are often the primary determinate of if or when a disease is expressed in your body and if it is allowed to grow or instead goes into remission “once expressed.”
There’s always hope and opportunity to improve your health by identifying and eliminating the cause of illness … even when a disease is present in your DNA.
Your choices either strengthen, maintain and even improve your good healthy DNA genetic expression … or can otherwise degenerate, weaken, and allow diseases to flourish -- “in effect” causing diseases, poor health conditions, and yes even death… or even worse prolong agonizing painful poor health.
Epigenetics, which means “changes in gene function that do not involve changes in DNA sequence,” according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, offers incredible empowerment for all of us, including those who feel we’re destined to repeat a family history of a certain illness.
In other words, your birth-DNA is not your destiny. It’s been found that the addition of a methyl group – one carbon atom attached to three hydrogen atoms – to a specific spot on a gene can change that gene’s expression, and, as TIME magazine reported, essentially turn it on or off.
Often the process, known as DNA methylation, makes the gene’s expression either pro-health or pro-disease, and it’s a process you have a say in.
"We have a choice to bathe our genes with joy, happiness, exercise, and nutritious foods, or we can bathe them with anger, lack of hope, junk food and sedentary lifestyle," David Rakel, MD, director of integrative medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, said in a UW Health article.
"This area of research holds so much potential and gives us the hope to say 'Even if my genes indicate a history of family illness, I can make positive lifestyle choices that can keep a gene from being expressed as a disease,'" he says.
Eliminate the Cause, No Need for a Cure
Your everyday choices are what guide the expression of your genetic code, and explain why identical twins, who have the same DNA, often end up with different health complaints later in life. Something caused their genes to express differently, and that “something” is often lifestyle and environmentally related.
As the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states, “Four modifiable health risk behaviors—lack of physical activity, poor nutrition, tobacco use, and excessive alcohol consumption—are responsible for much of the illness, suffering, and early death related to chronic diseases.”
When you eliminate these “causes,” you therefore often eliminate a need for a cure … a very good thing, especially when you consider the “cure” is often drugs and surgery.
Relying on drugs to cure your health problems often results in even more problems, and their use has actually been listed as a “substantial cause of preventable illness” in the over 65 crowd because of the high prevalence of adverse drug reactions in this group.
Writing in the British Medical Journal, researchers state that Americans over 65 experience 180,000 life-threatening or fatal adverse drug effects each year, over half of which may be preventable. They also note that a study found 6.5 percent of all hospitalizations in the general population are due to adverse drug reactions, and this percentage is likely even higher in those over 65.
They continue to state that new symptoms in the elderly should always be considered as potential drug side effects … and often people’s health can markedly improve -- i.e. they can experience a “total cure” -- just by discontinuing their prescription drugs!
“Once recognized, a side effect of a drug is probably the single most reversible affliction in all of geriatric medicine … discovering that a symptom is caused by a drug presents an uncommon opportunity to effect a total “cure” by stopping the offending prescription or lowering the dose.
In our own practices we have often seen patients on a seemingly inexorable trajectory towards institutional care whose functional capacity was restored by thoughtful reassessment of their drug regimens. This has led to the useful if overstated recommendation that “any new symptom in an older patient should be considered a possible drug side effect until proved otherwise,”” researchers stated.
Fortunately, as you make a commitment to a healthier lifestyle, not only will your genetic expression be optimized, but your need for prescription drugs will typically decline as well.
Lifestyle Tips for “Eliminating the Cause” of Many if Not Most Diseases
Remember, when you eliminate the cause there’s no need for a cure. Here are some of the top steps you can take to live healthy and avoid illness as much as possible:
- Regular Exercise: A minor investment in a few different exercise programs that you can do right from your own home can make major differences for your physical and emotional wellbeing. This needn’t be expensive; on the contrary, you can get Jacques Gauthier’s Stretching Toward a Healthier Life AND Shea Vaughn’s awesome SheaNetics program (a blend of Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, Martial Arts, Gyro-Kinesis, Dance and MORE) for under $90 with free shipping (useful and affective for weeks, months and years for less cost than one month’s health-club membership and less cost than one session with most personal trainers).
Both of these home and office exercise programs will help strengthen and tone your core muscles while promoting flexibility, better circulation, and improved endurance for better physical health and emotional wellbeing.
- Plenty of Sleep Each Night: Getting a good night’s sleep strengthens your stress-coping abilities and may even help control your appetite as research has shown that not getting enough sleep can send “hunger hormones” out of whack and possibly trigger overeating.
Once you are in bed, listen to relaxing music or the excellent Sleep Easy CD to help you "shift gears" and relax into sleep.
The challenge with most air filters or purifiers is that air must be drawn to the unit, either through natural air flow, or through the use of a fan. This method results in uneven treatment and can leave pockets of polluted air, plus fans are noisy, subject to failure, and require higher levels of electricity.
Unlike most air purifiers, the top-rated PIONAIR™ Air Treatment System doesn't wait for pollutants to contact a filter or plate. Instead, the PIONAIR generates air-purifying technology that migrates through the area and neutralizes organic odors, microbes and molds at their source. As a result, the PIONAIR produces fresh clean air throughout your home or office uniformly, by addressing the pollutant source -- without the use of fans, filters, or plates.
- Effective Stress Relief: Not only does stress and anxiety interfere with your immune system, making you vulnerable to illnesses like the flu, it impairs your body's ability to respond to its anti-inflammatory signals, putting you at an increased risk of allergies, autoimmune diseases and heart disease.
To keep stress levels at bay, even with our often tight editorial deadlines, the staff at SixWise LOVES Staying Healthy in a Stressful World, the highly praised CD by Dr. Peter Reznik, one of the most respected mind/body integrative therapists of our time. The program will actually help you to embark on a practice for transforming your stress into life-enhancing experiences.
- Detox Regularly: Every day we’re all exposed to chemicals in our food and water, pollution in our air, and emotional stress in our lives. Over time, these toxins accumulate in your body and can manifest as insomnia, fatigue, digestive problems, aches and pains or even chronic disease.
Detoxification gives your body a chance to rest, clear out toxins and become nourished. Generally this is done by first removing and eliminating toxins, then providing your body with healthy nutrients.
You can also support the removal of toxins from your body using HMD,™ the natural heavy metal chelator from DrHMD.com.
The Standard Process 21-Day Purification Program recommended by your health care professional is another great option. The dietary component of the purification program is designed to be a nutrient-dense diet with the added benefit of utilizing whole foods and whole food supplements to support detoxification.
Along with a diet and exercise program, the 21-Day Purification Program includes the following Standard Process supplements:
- SP Cleanse® -- purification
- SP Complete™ -- nutritious supplement shakes
- Gastro-Fiber® (capsules) or Whole Food Fiber (powder) -- fiber support
- SP Green Food™ -- phytonutrients
- Cleanse Your Nasal Passages: Nasal cleansing, also known as nasal irrigation, involves using a neti pot to pour a lukewarm saline solution (pure water mixed with natural salt) inside one side of your nostril while tilting your head sideways so the water runs out of your other nostril.
This simple, inexpensive and soothing technique, using a well-designed neti pot, can help you:
- Clear your nasal passages
- Remove excess mucus
- Reduce dust and pollen by cleansing nasal passages
- Relieve nasal dryness
The first step is to make your saline solution, which should be made with pure (distilled or purified) water that’s as close to the temperature of your body as you can get it mixed with about 1/4 teaspoon of natural, non-iodized salt, such as Ancient Secrets Nasal Cleansing Salt.
Then add it to your high-quality neti pot, of which Sixwise.com highly recommends Ancient Secrets Nasal Cleansing Pot. It is made from sturdy, lead-free ceramic and coated with a food-grade sealant. Its unique design also makes it very easy and effective to use, plus it’s dishwasher safe.
- Balance the Good and Bad Bacteria in Your Gut: Seventy percent of your immune system is located in your digestive system. This means that if your gut is overrun with bad bacteria, there’s a good chance your immune system will not be functioning at its best.
You can help balance your gut bacteria and support immune system health with AbsorbAid Probiotic from NutritionsFinest.com -- a superlative probiotic supplement that provides clinical activities supporting systemic health and wellness through immune-system protection, allergy reduction and effective and enhanced nutrient absorption.
AbsorbAid Probiotic has 30 billion organisms per capsule, with two clinically effective and dominant genera Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus: L. acidophilus and L. salivarius in a 2:1 ratio and B. lactis and B. breve, also in a 2:1 ratio. Each bacterial genus-species has its own specific metabolic activities, which lead to their effective inter-species synergism.
Studies have shown that probiotics may be helpful with both immune system modulation and allergies, plus they’re imperative if you’ve recently been on antibiotic therapy.
- Keep Your Home “Perfect Clean:” Common cleaners and cleaning tools like cotton rags and mops do not make the grade in terms of "deep" cleaning to avoid illness. This is why Sixwise.com strongly endorses and offers you PerfectClean's entire line of ultramicrofiber high-performance cleaning products. The ultramicrofibers in these products reach into microscopic nooks, crannies and crevices on your floors, countertops, furniture and other surfaces and remove everything in their path. No other type of cleaning tool can come remotely close to removing microscopic contaminants that can make you sick!
The ultramicrofibers found in PerfectClean products are positively charged while dirt and biological contaminants are negatively charged. This means that unlike any other type of cleaning tool, the PerfectClean ultramicrofibers grab everything and never let them go. Also, dangerous germs won't be spread around your floors or other surfaces as other cleaning tools tend to do!
- Eat More Raw Foods: Eating a diet solely of cooked foods, even healthy cooked foods, will leave a major nutritional gap in your body because they contain no enzymes.
Your body contains 2,500 or more different enzymes. For instance, enzymes in your intestines are what allow your food to be broken down, and the nutrients absorbed by your bloodstream.
The ideal way to add enzymes to your diet is simply by eating more raw foods. Be generous with consuming raw fruits and vegetables, and also consider adding other sources of raw food to your diet, such as raw milk and raw-milk cheese.
For some delicious, enzyme-rich raw food recipes, try out the book "Alive in 5": Raw Gourmet Meals in Five Minutes. Even those who are new to raw foods will enjoy the simple recipes (most can be prepared in five minutes!) for lasagna, spaghetti marinara, stuffed mushrooms, broccoli in cheese sauce, apple pie and more. They're healthy and delicious, and will make you want to eat raw for the taste value alone.
Another option if your diet consists primarily of cooked foods is to take an enzyme supplement. There are numerous enzyme supplements available on the market to help increase your levels, but Sixiwse.com highly recommends the plant-based, acid-resistant digestive enzyme formulation, AbsorbAid Platinum from NutritionsFinest.com.

Just about the time you think you have all the answers or they’ve figured out exactly what the problem is, you get a curve ball thrown your way. Like this prior SixWise article you likely didn’t see coming:
9 Causes of Fat Gain (Not One Being Food …)
Most doctors are well-trained to prescribe drugs, which typically do nothing to treat the underlying cause of your illness and instead can often add new complications and new side effects or even illnesses making you sicker and sicker if the underlying cause of your illness is not identified and eliminated.
Ask your doctor to FIRST help you identify the cause vs. simply treating the symptoms.
If the cause is eliminated… there is very often no need for a cure.
