Can Good Sex Help Your Job Performance? New Study
by www.SixWise.com

Staying intimate may be one of the best things you can do for the health of your relationship, but a new study suggests a good sex life may also help you out on the job.

Making sex a priority in your relationship may reduce your job stress and improve your health.

Ann-Christine Andersson Arntén, a psychology doctoral student from the University of Gothenburg, conducted a five-year study on the effects of relationships and work stress. After surveying about 900 men and women, she found that a healthy emotional and sexual relationship can significantly reduce stress at work.

This is an important finding as, according to The American Institute of Stress, "Job stress is far and away the major source of stress for American adults ... and it has escalated progressively over the past few decades."

Consider the following statistics from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health:

  • 40% of workers say their job is very or extremely stressful

  • 25% view their jobs as the number one stressor in their lives

  • 75% of employees believe the worker has more on-the-job stress than a generation ago

  • 29% of workers say they feel "quite a bit or extremely stressed at work"

  • Problems at work are more strongly associated with health problems than any other life stressor, including financial or family problems

It turns out that while a healthy intimate relationship may not be able to impact the causes of stress at work, it can help you to overcome the stress once you get home.

“Either you come home to something that gives you a possibility to rewind and recover or you have a relationship that makes you more troubled,” Andersson Arntén told Sweden’s The Local. “If that’s the case then you cannot recover, and your whole system physically and mentally will become unbalanced. It will start to become more and more unhealthy and could end up in depression, anxiety, or sleeping problems.”

This is not the first study to find that sex helps to relieve stress. A separate study published in the journal Biological Psychology found that intercourse leads to healthier stress responses during stressful situations, along with lower blood pressure.

In fact, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the potential benefits of a healthy sex life.

7 More Ways Sex Can Improve Your Health and Life

Dr. Irwin Goldstein, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, recently told CNN.com that when you read about the physical benefits of sex, “you can't help but say, 'Holy God! Sexual activity is a very important thing to do. Human beings were really meant to do this.'"

Just what types of benefits is he referring to? Here’s a summary of the recent research:

  1. Lower risk of heart disease: A new study in the American Journal of Cardiology found having sex twice a week may lower men’s risk of heart attack by up to 45 percent.

  1. Strengthened immune system: Those who have sex once or twice a week may have higher levels of an antibody called immunoglobulin A, which may lower your incidence of colds and infections.

  1. Live longer: Studies have shown that men who had sex at least twice a week lived longer than those who did so less than once a month.

  1. Lower cancer risk: Women can lower their risk of breast cancer, and men their risk of prostate cancer, by having sex often.

  1. Pain relief: Sexual activity and orgasm increase levels of the hormone oxytocin, which increases endorphins that lower your pain levels. Studies have shown that sexual activity can relieve back pain, migraines, arthritis pain and PMS symptoms.

  1. Lose weight: Sex burns calories, on average 50-60 per session, which can add up to an effective form of exercise and weight loss over time.

  1. Boost self-esteem and bonding: Sex not only raises your levels of self-esteem, but the hormone oxytocin helps to increase your bonding as a couple.

Tips for Improving Your Sex Life

Sex is not only a physical issue, it’s an emotional one, so one of the first steps toward physical intimacy should be strengthening your relationship on an emotional level.

Stretch Your Way to a Healthier, More Intimate Relationship

Proper stretching is one of the most widely recommended methods to help you look and feel younger, live longer, and increase your mental concentration and emotional well-being.

Stretching Toward a Healthier Life, the top-recommended DVD by stretching expert Jacques Gauthier:

  • Presents 15 stretches that stretch all the key muscles groups throughout your entire body.

  • Takes only about 15-20 minutes per day total to do the complete stretching.

  • Stretching expert and host Jacques Gauthier and his wife Dorothee Lavoie demonstrate each stretch in their entirety, including insights on what NOT to do.

  • Includes stretches that you'll find actually feel good and are easy to do (many stretches in other programs are not).

Good communication is essential to any marriage and communicating openly and honestly about finances, children and your feelings will build a strong bond between the two of you. Don’t expect your partner to be a mind reader. Talk to them and let your feelings be known, and this includes about what you’d like more of in the bedroom.

Stress management is also important, as it can be next to impossible to be intimate if you’ve got worries and anxiety running through your mind.

Further, one of the BEST ways to improve your sex life, for both men and women, is the simple lifestyle habit of exercise.

Exercise will not only relieve stress but also helps you feel sexier and increases your self-esteem.
