Is Any of This $33 Billion in Unclaimed Cash Yours?
by www.SixWise.com
State government coffers contain nearly $33 billion in unclaimed property, including dividend or payroll checks that have yet to be cashed, refunds, trust distributions, unredeemed money orders, insurance payments or refunds, annuities, certificates of deposit, customer overpayments and contents of safe-deposit boxes.
Some of this money could be yours.
To find out, visit unclaimed.org, which is the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators' Web site. You can also check out MissingMoney.com.
Both of these sites allow you to search state records (for free) and reclaim your lost money. You can also search for names of deceased relatives who have unclaimed property, and if you are their legal heir, you can claim that property as well.
If you find that you have unclaimed money, all you need to do is fill out a claim form and submit it to the state’s claim office (along with proper documentation).
